We are all aware of climate change but in our own little worlds we don't really see it do we? It’s not until we go to fragile environments that we actually see it at first hand. Sea Ice is the life blood of the Arctic, yet we are losing it and at an alarming rate. Sea Ice is important to all creatures but none more so than Ringed Seals which are vitally important for Polar Bears. The wrong kind of Ice and the Seals fail to raise their young. This year in Svalbard it was the wrong kind of Ice. It formed late in most fjords and which meant the female seals had no choice but to give birth to their young straight onto the ice. This gives the young no protection and are easy prey for foxes, birds and Polar Bears. Short term gain is relished by these Arctic predators, but the longer-term damage will be a disaster. So, this image for me tells that powerful story.
