Crested Tit
British Wildlife Photography Awards 2025
Wild Woods
The silence of the forest is broken by the faint call of a Crested Tit as it perches on a Scots pine sapling. This beautiful bird is common on the continent but in the UK, can only be found in Caledonian pine forests and Scots pine plantations of Scotland. The Crested Tit is very sedentary and so doesn‘t readily expand to breed in new areas. The Spey Valley is a stronghold and it is a lovely sight to witness this diminutive bird.
